In the ancient Roman Agora was ruined by the invasion of Eroulles on 267 B.C. The ''tower of the winds (Aerides)'' was built by the astronomer Andronikos from Kyrrhos in Macedonia.
It is an octagonical tower of Pentelic marble standing on a base with 3 steps. Boreas, Kaikias, Apeliotes, Euros, Notos, Lips, Zephyros and Skiron was believed to be the ancient deities in the honor of which this ''temple'' is dedicated. |
